Inaugural Frame and Truss meeting a huge success

ForestWorks has facilitated the first national Frame and Truss Working Group meeting. This national group builds on work carried out in other states by relevant industry associations. These key stakeholders reviewed the Timber Manufactured Products skill standards, qualifications and discussed career pathways for frame and truss employees.  Learn More!

 

ForestWorks submission promotes inclusive educational approach to meet climate change challenge

ForestWorks recently provided the Senate Standing Committee on Education, Employment and Workplace Relations with advice on the capacity of universities and other research and training institutions to meet current and future demand for climate change professionals and possible measures to assist understanding of climate change in the Asia-Pacific region, including provision of training and skills assistance. ForestWorks joins Minister in launch of Victorian Skills Reform – Securing Jobs for the Future

ForestWorks joined the Victorian Minister for Skills and Workforce Participation, Jacinta Allan MP at an event marking the launch of the Securing Jobs for the Future – Skills for Victoria. This event was held at CNC Design – the first enterprise in Victoria to sign up to the Victorian Skills Pledge. Learn More!

 

ForestWorks encourages Victorian enterprises to sign ‘Skills Pledge’

Forestworks is encouraging all Victorian forest, wood, paper and timber products enterprise owners and managers to sign the Victorian Skills Pledge. The pledge is a public acknowledgement that enterprises are committed to the skills development and upskilling of their employees. Be one of the first Victorian businesses to register online. ‘Try a Trade’ with ForestWorks

ForestWorks Tasmania recently participated in the first of three ‘Try a Trade’ events in Hobart. Over 800 Year 9 students from forty southern schools in Tasmania attended the event. These students gain hands-on experience learning about different career pathways, training requirements and employment opportunities in a range of trades. Learn More!

 

ForestWorks gives presentation on RPL CD

Sharmily Mukherjee, Manager ForestWorks New South Wales, gave a presentation at the Skills Recognition 2009 Conference on a new project called ‘Making RPL Part of the Furniture’. As part of the project, ForestWorks will develop a Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) tool. This project is jointly funded by the Australian Government and the NSW Government. Learn More!

 

ForestWorks presents at National Furnishing Teachers Conference

Patricia Hughes, the Victorian ITAB Manager for Forestry and Furnishing, recently presented at the biennial National Furnishing Teachers Conference in Albury, NSW. Pat’s presentation focused on the impact of lean manufacturing electives on the delivery of furnishing apprenticeship programmes. Sharmily Mukherjee, Manager ForestWorks New South Wales, also gave a presentation at the event on the RPL tool (see story above). Learn More!

 

New industry assistance for Indigenous employment and retention

From 1 July 2009 the reformed Indigenous Employment Program (IEP) will provide employers in industry groups across Australia with a greater range of services to recruit, train and retain Indigenous employees. Learn More!

 

Training partnership to deliver improved forest safety

Forestry Tasmania and Tasmanian Forest Contractors Association (TFCA) have developed a project for up skilling contractors in safety management systems with outcomes focused on reducing lost time injuries (LTI). ForestWorks has been and will continue to provide assistance on this project. Learn More!
