FIAPS Bulletin - August 2009

The latest FIAPS bulletin.

FIAPS BULLETIN - AUGUST 2009

ATTA and FIAPS Joint Workshop

The Australian Timber Trainers Association (ATTA) and ForestWorks’ Industry Assessment Plan System (FIAPS) members held a highly successful combined annual workshop in Mt Gambier on 27-30 July 2009. Activities focussed on skills development techniques and approaches to meet workforce development needs and site tours to local plantation and harvesting enterprises were a highlight. Over the five days, 60 delegates attended the workshop which resulted in comprehensive discussion and consultation around skills development and implementation issues.

ISC Upgrade

An ISC upgrade was submitted to DEEWR on 13 August 2009. Changes to FPI05 include the addition of Employability Skills Qualifications Summaries and the upgrading of imported units. Notification will be sent when the upgrade goes live on NTIS.

Skill Sets for Mechanical Harvesting

Extensive further research and consultation will soon be conducted on the Skill Sets for Mechanical Harvesting. This will enable clarification and validation of industry need and further exploration of how best to align the proposed Skill Sets to licensing and regulatory requirements throughout Australia. We would welcome you involvement in the development of these Skill Sets. Please contact Donna Ewing if you would like to be involved in the Project dewing@forestworks.com.au.

Frame and Truss Sector
Work is continuing in relation to qualification pathways for the Frame and Truss sector. This is being done in consultation with a national steering group. For input into the structure of the qualifications and/or the units please contact Michael Littlechild mlittlechild@forestworks.com.au.

New TAA04 Integration Guide
A new guide has been developed for RTOs currently delivering the Certificate IV in Training & Assessment. It focuses on integrated training and assessment activities and provides a model to cluster units of competency for training and assessment purposes. The guide groups the 14 units into six functional areas, removing any assessment duplication within the units, making it a time and cost effective approach to delivery of this certificate. Further details can be found at http://www.atpl.net.au/itemdetail.aspx?piid+16303.
