Put yourself in the frame ... Become a Timber Products Manufacturer!


Every time you push open a window or walk through a door, you have the workers in the Timber Products Manufacturing sector to thank.

If you have a good eye for detail and a practical approach to life, then you could become one of the skilled workers in this sector.

Timber products businesses are found all over Australia, in cities as well as rural and regional areas.

Some of them assemble wall frames and roof trusses, some make windows and doors and some even make the wooden frames for spa baths.

If you like working with wood then this sector is for you.

What jobs are there?

Generally work is carried out in a workshop setting, requires a high degree of skill and involves using high-tech machinery. Jobs at Certificate II or III qualification (combining on- and off-the-job training) include:

  • Jig setting
  • Operator saws and presses
  • Making trusses
  • Assembling frames
  • Driving forklifts and despatching goods.

Trades jobs (which require doing an apprenticeship) include:

  • Carpentry and joinery
  • Building
  • Wood machining and maintenance fitting

Some jobs require a Diploma or higher, including:

  • Marketing and sales management
  • Estimating and detailing
  • Planning and business management.
 

DID YOU KNOW?

The largest doors in the world are at the Cape Kennedy space centre in the US.

They are 140 metres high and weigh 326.5 tonnes. Just to open them takes 45 minutes.

The industry is very supportive of people who want to better their skills and keep learning. There are many types of jobs, so you can really make a career of it.
