Skills development pathways

Training turns a job into a career...

These days, many industries don’t seem to take an interest in the lives of their workers.

The Forest, Wood, Paper and Timber Products Industry does and backs this up by offering training that can set you up for life.

Training turns your basic job into a better job and that better job into a career.

Training Packages

Industry training takes the form of Training Packages, which teach you the skills needed to perform a particular kind of job.

In this industry, there are two Training Packages:

  • Forest and Forest Products Industry Training Package (FPI05)

  • Pulp and Paper Manufacturing Training Package (FPP01)

Between them they cover the seven sectors of the industry.

There are four ‘pathways’ to developing skills in this industry. Your career may involve just one method or as many as all four. The pathways are:

Enterprise Training - Pathway 1
You could call this the 'traditional way' to develop skills, though it's still very popular today. » more
Enterprise training plus formal assessment - Pathway 2
This pathway takes enterprise training (informal on-the-job training) a step further by formally assessing workers against a national standard. » more
RTO training and assessment - Pathway 3
In this pathway, a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) gives training to workers, as opposed to the skills being learned from a supervisor on the job. » more
Traineeships and Apprenticeships - Pathway 4
Of the four pathways, traineeships and apprenticeships offer the most comprehensive method of training and assessment. » more
