Continuous Improvement of Training Packages

Current projects for the Forest and Forest Products (FPI11) and Pulp and Paper Manufacturing Industry (FPP10) Training Packages include:

Project Overview
FPP10 – Pulp and Paper Manufacturing Industry Training Package
Frontline Management Identify the need for Leadership Skills across job roles in the industry.
FPI11 – Forest and Forest Products Training Package
Advanced Diploma of Forest Industry Sustainability Increase flexibility of qualification to better align to industry skill needs.

Implementation aspects: Possible reduction in qualification size to 10 units. Current units to remain, though possibly reorganised into new elective groups.

Clean Energy Address energy efficiency skills needs of the industry to identify skills gaps and emerging skills.

Fatigue Management

Incorporating fatigue management into units of competency is now integrated as a part of routine development processes.

Finger jointing Skill Sets have been developed for the following job roles: Finger Jointing Plant Operator, Moulder Operator, Grader/Quality Control Operator.

Fire Management

The response from stakeholders was that fire training should be sourced from the Public Safety Package.

Log Truck Driver

Investigate safety imperative for loading, transport and unloading of logs, as well as transporting other forestry produce.

Implementation aspects:

Content from original unit FPICOT3226B Shift forestry logs using trucks expanded and replaced with two new units: FPICOTXXX Transport forestry logs using trucks and FPICOTXXX Transport forestry produce using trucks.

It is proposed that each of these units be packaged with FPICOR2205B Follow environmental care procedures and FPICOR2205B Follow OHS policies and procedures with a view to form two new skill sets (one for transporting logs and the other for forestry products such as chips, biomass etc).

Plan and monitor timber treatment plant operations

Merchandising Timber Solutions Identified emerging skills need required for timber wholesale and retail staff in the areas of product knowledge and service skills. Review of qualifications to align to a range of job roles.

ISC upgrade

The ISC Upgrade of FPI11 Forest and Forest Products Training Package was completed in November and included minor changes such as:

  • Updates of job roles
  • Update the version of imported units
  • Fix spelling, grammar and typographical errors

The ISC Upgrade of FPP10 Pulp & Paper Manufacturing Industry Training Package has commenced.
