Skill Sets - Machine Operator

Version 1.2 of FPI05 will soon be uploaded to NTIS, it will include ten Skill Sets for Machine Operators.

Implementation Guides for the individual Skill Sets have been devised and can be accessed here:

  • Buncher operator
  • Boom delimber operator
  • Crawler/dozer operator
  • Excavator operator
  • Forwarder operator
  • Loader operator
  • Mechanical processor operator
  • Heavy production mobile chipper operator
  • Single grip harvester operator
  • Skidder operator

All Skill Sets are made up of 4 units of competency and comprise the relevant operator unit, an OHS unit, an Environmental unit and a First Aid unit.  They have been aligned, where possible, to state/territory operator licensing requirements.  In some jurisdictions, the attainment of the Skill Set will be all that is required to gain an operator licence, in all cases, the Skill Sets provide credit towards a full qualification.

Learner Guides for Forwarder, Excavator, Feller Buncher, OHS and Environment are currently being updated and will soon be available from ForestWorks.

ForestWorks would like to thank all those who took part in the development and validation of the Skill Sets.
