Tasmanian Forest Operator Assessment and Licensing Scheme

ForestWorks Tasmania oversees the issuance of Tasmanian forest industry operator licenses, administers an industry database, supports Tasmanian Forest Industries Training Board (TFITB) registered assessors and manages forest industry standards and accreditation committees.

Tasmanian Forest Industries Training Board (TFITB) and Forest Operator Assessment & Licencing Scheme


 

Purpose

The Forest Operator Assessment and Licensing Scheme was put in place by the industry to reduce the incidence of death or serious injury in the Tasmanian forest industries.  It is also used by employers to provide evidence that their employees are trained to the appropriate standard in accordance with Section 9 (1) (c) of the Workplace Health and Safety Act 1995 and to monitor the performance of their business against Section 9 (2) (d), (e), (f) and (g) of the Act.  Forest Industry Tasks Covered include:
·         Certification Standards

·         Trainer and Assessor Accreditation Standards

·         Administrative Systems

·         Issuance of Licences

·         Suspension of Operators

·         Issues Resolution

·         Review and Management

·         TFITB Industry Competency Standards

Fire Skills - Training and Assessment Tools

ForestWorks Tasmania has developed a range of fire assessment tools, learner resources and PowerPoint presentations for three levels of Tasmanian Fire Assessment: Fire Weather Evaluation; Bushfire Awareness; and Wildfire Suppression. The project involved broad consultation with industry experts and the Tasmanian Forest Industry Fire Management Committee and was partially funded via the SET project.
