Workers Assistance Programs

For 10 years ForestWorks has assisted retrenched workers through our Workers Assistace Programs

Assisting redundant workers in Tasmania to get back on their feet

At ForestWorks, we know that timely and comprehensive support for retrenched workers is the key to successful outcomes – not only for the workers themselves, but importantly also for their families and the broader community.

Our Workers Assistance programs have been assisting workers for over 10 years and the latest program has recently been expanded to cover all affected forest and timber workers across Tasmania. We have engaged and are now training five new Worker Assistance Coordinators who have themselves experienced retrenchment and are well placed to offer real, practical support.

Assistance is offered in a range of areas – from resume-writing and visiting local businesses to identify job opportunities, to facilitating access to personal and professional counselling, government services and training places.

For more information about the Workers Assistance program in Tasmania, please contact Eva Down – ForestWorks Skills and Employment Coordinator edown@forestworks.com.au

Tasmanian Transitional Support Fund

Following the signing of the Tasmanian Forests Intergovernmental Agreement on 7 August, ForestWorks has been playing a critical role in the management of transitional support payments. To date we have managed the distribution of $4.5M to affected employees. We will continue to distribute payments to assist workers transition into their new work, training or retirement, consistent with eligibility guidelines attached to the program.

To be eligible, employees must have been retrenched after the signing of the IGA on 7th August and been employed by either Gunns or identified contractor companies working with native forest timber.

For more information about the Tasmanina Transitional Support Fund please contact Mazzy Star on phone 1800 177 001 or mstar@forestworks.com.au
